To assist you in inventorying and cataloguing your collections, the Société des musées québécois has published Documenting Your Collectons: Info-Muse Network Documentation Guide. The guide is compatible with the CHIN (Canadian Heritage Information Network) system, and is specifically adapted to the needs of museums looking for a simple means of inventorying and cataloguing the objects in their collections. It covers a variety of data fields, presented in logical order and grouped into three main disciplines, i.e. humanities (fine arts/decorative arts, ethnology/history, technology), archaeology and natural sciences. The guide also suggests two classification systems and contains an illustrated section on how to measure objects, as well as sample documentation sheets.
