Since the dawn of human memory, each generation has been rearranging, transforming and remodelling the environment it leaves behind for its descendants. These museums, in natural or recreated environments, have the mandate to conserve and explain the ecosystems that highlight the vital interdependence between humans, animals, their habitats, resources and the land.

There are close to seven million items in natural science collections in Quebec. 49% of them are in museums' botanical, fossil and mineralogical collections, in order of size.
